Tunnel Construction Nearing Completion
The DetroitWindsor Tunnel opens 24 hours beginning July 19th
A $21.6-million construction project inside the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel is nearing completion.
As a result, normal hours will return for the tunnel, open 24 hours, beginning July 19th until mid August.
At that point, it will close one night per week through to September 30th.
There have been sporadic closures since the work began in October 2017, which was suppose to last until the summer of 2018, but there have been several delays in completing the work.
The company doing the work claims the work was more complicated than original thought.
The work was part of maintenance to keep the tunnel operational for years to come.
12,000 commuters use the tunnel daily.
