VIDEO More Delays for WindsorDetroit Tunnel

There's still no light at the end of the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel as the completion date for a $22-million renovation project is facing another delay
Originally set to be completed in mid-June, then by the end of this year, tunnel President Neal Belitsky says it'll be the new year, now, before the work is finished.
"The contractor is progressing as the traveling public can see every time they go through but we will not have the work completely by the end of December," says Belitsky. "So we are working with the contractor and our engineers to see where we will be after December 31st."
Officials will be meeting with the contractor and engineer late next week to determine a new completion date, with hopes of releasing the date early in the new year.

Belitsky admits the ceiling project is more complex than anticipated but officials can't fault the contractor.
"The tunnel was designed and built in the 1920's and so things in the field are not necessarily what they look like on the blue prints from that many years ago. It's really beyond the fault of the contractor," he says.
The tunnel has been shut down from 8pm until 5:30am from Sunday to Thursday since late October 2017 to allow for work overnight.
Those closures will continue although the schedule will be adjusted during the holidays.
