The President and CEO of Windsor Regional Hospital says he isn't worried about a recent funding announcement for a new hospital in the Grey County community of Markdale, just east of Owen Sound.
David Musyj believes plans for a new mega-hospital here won't directly be impacted because the two projects are quite different in terms of size.
Grey Bruce Health Services recently received approval from the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care on its Stage 2 Submission.
The new hospital in Markdale will be approximately 68,000 square feet compared to Windsor's proposal for 1.6 million square feet.
"The announcement is positive because it means the ball is rolling on hospital funding" says Musyj. "I hope that this is a step towards looking at some new builds and the announcement of Stage 2 for ourselves would hopefully be forthcoming as well as a result of this."
Musyj says news from this week's provincial fall economic update is also sounding positive. "They mentioned over the next five years that 18 hospitals across Ontario will complete major renovations or rebuilds. They said they are also working with hospitals to plan for 19 additional major capital projects. So I hope we're part of the 18."
The proposed cost of the Windsor project is $2-billion.
