A Grade 12 students at Walkerville High School is heading to Florida State on a swim scholarship.
Maddie McDonald has been a member of the Windsor Aquatic Club and the Windsor-Essex Swim Team.
She has verbally committed to the 2018-19 season for Neal Studd and his coaching staff at Florida State University.
McDonald says she's been swimming since she was 8 years old and her strength is the backstroke.
McDonald says getting to a university in the US is what she's been working toward since she was very young.
She says LaSalle's Olympian - Kylie Masse - has been a guiding light in her career.
"Kylie Masse is a huge inspiration to me I trained with her growing up and seeing the things she's done in the past and this year, breaking the world record is unbelievable" says McDonald, "so she's obviously a huge inspiration for me and I really look up to her"
She says the Florida State swim program is very promising with very talented swimmers.
McDonald is heading to the Talahasee campus today (September 7) for a tour of the facilities and to watch a football game.
She can't go into detail about the scholarship she's being offered until after signing documents in November.
She finished fourth at the 2017 Canadian Junior Championships in the 100m backstroke, and was a finalist in the 200m backstroke, 50m free, and 100m free.
McDonald has medaled five times while representing Windsor-Essex at three International Children’s Games
