The Windsor Police Service will be looking for a new police chief come the new year.
Chief Al Frederick was scheduled to retire in January 2018, but he delayed it as the city had submitted a bid to take over Amherstburg policing, and other on-going issues such as the legalization of marijuana and the opioid crisis.
Chief Frederick confirms he will retire in 2019 and as of now, the date is the end of June.
He says part of the reason for delaying retirement was to give the two new deputy chiefs some time for training to possibly take over the top job.
Chief Frederick says he has plans for the future.
"I have other opportunities so I'm going to explore some of those and definitely going to have volunteerism in the future for my wife and I and I'm looking forward to it," says Frederick.

He believes everything is falling into place.
"I'm feeling very very good about where the organization is," says Frederick. "The succession plan that is in place, I'm very comfortable with Amherstburg the professional and dedication that I see every day."
The current two deputy police chiefs are 34-year veteran Brad Hill and 24-year veteran Pam Mizuno.
