Windsor Recognized for Environmental Achievement

The Essex Region Conservation Authority has recognized the City of Windsor for its commitment to the environment.
During Thursday's board meeting, ERCA presented the city with the Robert Pulleyblank Award for Municipal Environmental Achievement.
Mayor Drew Dilkens was on hand to accept the award saying it is a team effort by the current and previous councils.
He points to the commitment and investments to save Peche Island, upgrades to the city's sewer system to active transportation.
"They said that you were the winner this year, it was hands down," said Mayor Dilkens. "The city of Windsor won because of everything put together shows the dedication and a commitment by city and city council to make sure we are investing in climate change and our environment."
Dilkens says council always has the environment in mind when making decisions.
"We are trying to make improvements in the city whether it is active transportation, whether it is opening up Peche Island and saving Peche Island, whether it is investments in our sewer system recognizing that we probably have to spend half a billion dollars in the 20-30 years."
He says the award also recognizes the leadership of city council and the proactive efforts of administration to protect the environment and promote sustainability.
