The City of Windsor is putting out seven 'needle drop boxes' in areas throughout the city.
The sharp containers are bright yellow and are clearly labelled as 'Needle Drop Boxes' to try and reduce the number of improperly discarded needles.
The location of the boxes were picked using 311 data, as well as input from councillors, community groups and Windsor police.
The seven locations are Bruce Park, Wigle Park, Glengarry/Marentette neighbourhood, Senator Croll Park, Downtown Transit Terminal, Ford City Parkette and Dufferin Place behind Fire Headquarters.
Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens says the bins are a proven harm reduction effort that increases public safety.
They will be emptied regularly by trained professionals.
