Windsor Fire Set to Launch Carbon Monoxide Alarm Blitz

A carbon monoxide alarm blitz will begin next week in Windsor.
Windsor Fire & Rescue Chief Fire Prevention Officer John Lee says the blitz will begin on Monday and will last for five days.
He says crews will go door to door and make sure residents have working carbon monoxide alarms.
Lee says if a resident requires an alarm, one will be installed free of charge.
"We're finding a lot of homes that have smoke and CO alarms that are in excess of 10-years-old and still have them and those are now since 2015 considered to be a violation," says Lee. "So even though it's functioning it maybe expired and considered to be obsolete which is a violation of the fire code."

He says crews will visit two neighbourhoods.
"One area is south Walkerville between Marentette and Forest and Ypres to Tecumseh Road and the other area Central to Tourangeau, Tecumseh to Seminole," says Lee.
Last month, Windsor fire received 360 combination carbon monoxide and smoke alarms from Enbridge.
Those units will be the ones installed if a resident requires one.
Carbon monoxide is a toxic, odourless gas and is known as the silent killer.
