Windsor Fighter to Make UFC Debut
Kyle Prepolec has signed a fourfight deal with the organization
A local fighter is taking a big step forward this weekend.
Windsor's Kyle Prepolec will make his UFC debut Saturday night in Ottawa.
The 29-year-old was called last minute to fight fellow Canadian Nordine Taleb of Montreal after his original opponent dropped out due to injury.
Prepolec says he's hasn't had much time to prepare.
"Thursday night I got the call and then Friday everything was signed and finalized and then the news got released officially from TSN and the UFC," says Prepolec. "Anything can happen, just be better, but don't go too crazy in the gym and burn out. Just do your thing."
Prepolec says he's stepping up a weight class for the bout against Taleb.
"I'm fighting up a weight class. I'm going to his weight which is at 170 pounds. I normally fight at 155 pounds. So it's a jump for me on a short notice. He's just a bigger guy. I've really got to use my footwork and speed. That's where I'm to be able to put my stuff together and beat him," says Prepolec.
He says he's put in the work and he's ready.
"I'm anxious, but it's more of an excitement. I'm nervous and all, but it's more geared toward being pumped," says Prepolec. "This is what we've been working for and I'm excited to get this going. So just focus on the basics, be aware, be alert and always keep moving."
This won't be Prepolic's only UFC fight — he's signed a four fight deal with the organization.
Prepolec has won his last four fights including a unanimous decision over UFC veteran Cody Pfister at an event in Windsor last month.
