The Windsor Assembly Plant will shut down next week.
Unifor Local 444 President, Dino Chiodo tells AM800 News it's because of a "parts supplier issue."
Chiodo say as of right now, the shut down will take place from the 7th-11th.
"We don't know exactly the full details or the extent of the issues but Chrysler has called us and suggested that they will be giving us more information. Until that time I really don't have a lot more other than they're planning not to operate next week," says Chiodo.
He adds the only thing he knows so far is that there is going to be some down time, saying they don't know exactly what that down time is going to look like. "Once we have it more formal, we'll be able to bring it so people know what's going to be happening, how the schedule is going to function or is going to affect different people," says Chiodo.
While the shut down takes place, some workers will be paid and others won't. Chiodo says through the collective bargaining there will be a number of workers that will continue to get a supplemental unemployment benefit which is like a wage replacement. But at the same time, there is going to be a number of employees who have below three years at that plant that won't be entitled to any of that.
AM800 News reached out to an official at Fiat-Chrysler who confirmed the information saying there is an issue with a parts suppler and there will be a shut down.
Windsor Assembly was already going to be closed for Remembrance Day on November 11th.
The shut down is not related to the ongoing contract talks at Integram Seating which has a strike deadline of midnight, Thursday into Friday.
