Windsor City Council has approved spending $90,000 for a feasibility study to look at expanding the WFCU Centre.
The plan is to add an indoor sports facility for soccer, tennis and football.
A consultant will be hired to look at the potential operating costs for the addition.
Mayor Drew Dilkens says it is part of the bigger plan for that area. "Something that is world class, that is great for the residents who live here and plugs in for sports tourism folks to sell another amenity and asset here."
"If you look at the WFCU Centre, if you look at what has happened there since we opened over the last nine years, you have seen no development in that area, on Mr Farhi's land, it is not because he is not interested in it, it is because the WFCU is a destination, people get in their car, they drive there and then they leave," says Dilkens. "What we are trying to do is solve that problem and put more development, create more bodies, put more bodies in that area, put more density in that area with people living there and have a commercial zone on Lauzon Rd. and residential zone."
Dilkens says Farhi Development, which owns some of the property around the WFCU Centre, is looking at building a series of town homes and condos.
He hopes the consultant will come back with a report in around three to four months.
