The Windsor Police Services Board has appointed an acting chief.
Deputy Chief Pam Mizuno has accepted the post while the board continues its search for a permanent chief to replace the retiring Chief Al Frederick.
Mizuno becomes the first woman in the chief's role in Windsor.
"It's always an honour to be a role model for other women who may be seeking employment as a police officer," she says. "It is an important role and I hope I am able to be an inspiration for others."
She's been with the police service for 25 years in several branch including patrol, investigations, provincial proceeds of crime unit and worked on the Human Rights project.
Mizuno is excited for the opportunity and says it will be business as usual for the most part.
Windsor Police Services Board Chair Mayor Drew Dilkens says the board is down to a shortlist of three candidates for the chief's job.
"It will not go on for months but a matter of weeks, we should be there," he says. "We are going to make sure we do all the due diligence to make sure we do everything we need to do to make sure we are getting the absolute best candidate for chief and that's the board's goal for sure."
