A local high school athlete's size and speed is gaining a lot of attention south of the border.
Theo Johnson is a 6'-5", 235-lb tight end for the Holy Names Knights who grabbed a lot of attention at different football camps in the U.S. last summer.
He received a couple of NCAA offers then, but those offers didn't stop. To name a few: Georgia, LSU, Iowa, as well as Syracuse, Penn State, Miami and Purdue of already come knocking.
The 18 year old has also visited Michigan State and got a visit from University of Michigan Head Coach Jim Harbaugh last week.
"It was cool to have a school of that stature, coach Harbaugh, coming to my school and talk to me and stuff," he says.
On top of visiting or been visited by some elite schools in the NCAA, he even received a phone call recently from Detroit Lions tight end Luke Wilson who offered to train him during the off-season.
It's a lot of excitement for a high school kid who still has one more year here at holy names, but he's trying to stay grounded.
"Last season I didn't start until half way through the season so I've had to work for everything I've gotten. I've worked really hard, my family has pushed me. I'm really humbled by my grind so haven't let it get to my head, no," says Johnson.
Holy Names coach Rob McIntyre tells CTV Windsor Johnson earned the attention he's getting from Division 1 schools.
"Not every kid is willing to put in the time Theo is. If Theo's marks weren't what they are right now he wouldn't be able to go to these schools. He'd be a non-qualifier and they wouldn't be interested," he says.
McIntyre says Johnson has the kind of tough decision most student athletes can only dream of.
"It's about where he sees himself best relationship fit and future wise. Fortunately for him he's got a lot of really good choices to make," says McIntyre.
Johnson says he's not leaning towards one school just yet.
"I plan to have a decision sometime in the summer or early next year," added Johnson, who says he plans on visiting more schools during March Break.
