The work is now expected to be completed at the end of 2018

Overnight closures will continue at the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel and the lack of workers is being blamed for the delay according to a city corporate leader.

The $22-million tunnel ceiling project was suppose to be done in mid-June, but it was extended to the end of October with overnight closures from 8 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Sunday through Thursday.

Corporate leader of Windsor's Transportation Services Carolyn Brown says the board has been informed the closures will remain in effect until the end of 2018.

"It has also been our observation that the contractor has not assigned sufficient workers to the job, didn't assign them early on, so that has clearly led to some of the delays that we are experiencing now," she says.

Plus, there have been issues regarding the installation of new anchors for the ceiling.
