VIDEO Chatham Casino Expected to Boost Growth

Cascades Casino opened its doors on Tuesday, official grand opening in August.

The new casino in Chatham is being considered a positive step in growth for the municipality.

The $36-million Cascades Casino replaces the slots in Dresden which closed on Sunday, July 14th.

80 of the 82 staff transferred to the new location, joining 200 new hires.

Councillor Michael Bondy calls it a good news story and says there has been a positive buzz in town.

He tells CTV Windsor the location is also perfect.

"It's beside a, what I consider to be a relatively underused convention centre and a very well used hotel, and also, it's in the heart of the city," says Bondy.

He says the casino is expected to generate a lot of money for the municipality.

"Gateway chose Chatham as their location and it will generate I'm sure, upwards of $1-million or more for the municipal coffers which is always a good thing because there's really not a lot of factories opening up."
