Justin Verlander picked up the win in his Astros debut as they clipped the Mariners 3-1 in Seattle. Verlander tossed six innings of one-run ball with seven strikeouts to earn the victory. Cameron Maybin's two-run homer in the seventh broke a 1-all tie and Ken Giles locked down his 29th save.
Houston has won six straight and improved to an AL-best 85-and-53. James Pazos took the loss in relief of starter Ariel Miranda, who walked six but didn't give up a hit in six innings of one-run ball.
Kyle Seager homered for Seattle, which lost its second straight.
