The Leddy Library at the University of Windsor is the first in Canada to install a unique study station.
Called the FitDesk, it's a stationary bicycle with a space for a laptop or tablet as well as resistance bands to work out your arms.
There are now 3 of them installed in the main floor area available to students and faculty.
Librarian Sharon Munro saw the idea in an article about a library in the US and forwarded it to the university's head librarian who thought it was an innovative idea to try out.
She says the number of the FitDesks could increase if they're well used.
"we have currently in place an honour system and we're going to see how that works out, for the time being" says Munro, "I think down the road, particularly if the bikes prove to be very popular we plan to get more"
Dr. Sarah Woodruff is with the university's Kineseology department and has had a FitDesk for a few years, which she loves.
"simply just being able to move while you're at your desk, when you are at your desk for a prolonged period of time the blood starts to pool in your lower legs, you might get some aches and pains in your lower back" says Woodruff, "this just helps me move and keep my body moving while I'm actually sitting there"
Dr. Woodruff and a pair of students demonstrated the FitDesks for the media this morning.
