No chickens allowed in Tecumseh.
A newly-approved animal control bylaw bans chickens in urban areas but not all councillors agree with the move.
Rita Ossington believes raising your own poultry is a healthier way to eat. "We're encouraging backyard gardens and we're encouraging all of these things because of people wanting to be a little but more proactive in what they are eating and the types of things they're eating and the freshness. Chickens is just another one of those that lends to that."
Ossington says with proper regulations dealing with distance from neighbouring homes and numbers, she sees nothing wrong with having your own chickens.
Ossington will now reach out to other municipalities that allow urban chickens to gather more information.
She plans to raise the issue again in the new year.
