Police say the driver swerved to avoid hitting a deer

The OPP are blaming a driver swerving to avoid hitting a deer as the cause of a crash on the 401 in Chatham-Kent that closed the highway Tuesday for more than 12 hours.

A tractor trailer rolled onto its side and caught fire in the westbound lanes in a construction zone of the 401 near Highway 40 around 5:30am

The Ministry of the Environment and the Ministry of Transportation were both involved in the clean-up effort.

The 401 reopened just before 8pm Tuesday.

No injuries are reported.
