Infrastructure Ontario is looking for the 'highest and best value' for the former Windsor Jail which is now up for sale in Olde Sandwich Town.
The building on Brock St., built in the 1920s, went up for sale with a list price of one-dollar.
It closed in 2014 after the South West Detention Centre opened.
Since then, there have been discussions between the province, the city and school boards but no sale happened.
Infrastructure Ontario Spokesperson Ian McConachie says, "they do not discuss the internal circulation process, if they do not reach a deal."
As a result, the property was put on the open market.
"The property is surplus to the needs of the government," he says. "It has been identified that it is no longer needed for programs or services by the provincial government, once we have completed our due diligence and our circulation process, and it proceeds to the open market, at that point we are looking for the highest and best value from potential purchasers."
There have been discussions about possibly converting it to a museum or retail space.
According to the online listing for the property, offers will be reviewed November 23 after a 30-day advertising period.
The jail is listed as a two-storey building at just over 33,000-square-feet.
