30 helmets will benefit people who end up in the ED with head related injuries

30 patients at Windsor Regional Hospital will benefit from 'Project Brain Bucket.'

University of Windsor students have donated that many decorated bike helmets for people who end up in the emergency department with a bicycle related head injury.

Some of those patients will be given some education in addition to a helmet, especially if their helmet was damaged in the crash.

The donation was inspired by a research project with a goal of reducing the number of preventable head injuries from those who ride bicycles without wearing helmets.

Diane Bradford, WRH's Manager, Regional Trauma Program/Injury Prevention, says they see a substantial increase in the number of severe traumas beginning the Victoria Day long weekend.

The research project was conducted by University of Windsor graduate Daniella Mlinarevic as part of her Master's research in the school's Cognitive Neurosciences Lab.
