The use of recreational marijuana will be allowed at the University of Windsor.
Associate Vice-President of Student Experience Ryan Flannagan says students will be allowed to smoke pot at designed smoking areas around the campus.
"For the first several months we're going to have an educational approach," says Flannagan. "We will let people know that the rules have changed, that the designated smoking areas are in specific locations and that they should look out for signage as to where those are both online and the physical signage here on campus."
Flannagan adds the university has been working on its marijuana strategy since late July.
"We had things all but sorted out and then the provincial government put forward the amended legislation on September 27th which required us to kind of do some re-thinking but we were able to do that with all of our partners on campus and we ultimately produced a strategy that's online presently," says Flannagan.
Flannagan says students cannot light up in student residences and they are not allowed to grow marijuana in their dorms.
