A big day for a little warrior princess in Windsor.
After finding a bone marrow match and undergoing chemotherapy, seven-month-old Madalayna Ducharme is having her transplant today.
Ducharme family friend Nicole Ramage says the family wants to focus on their baby girl today and will provide an update tomorrow.
Madalayna was diagnosed with a genetic disorder called malignant infantile osteopetrosis.
It attacks the vision, hearing and can be life threatening unless a stem cell bone marrow donor is found and a match was found in her brother.
Ramage says a fundraiser has been organized for April 1st at the Parkwood Gospel Temple to help the family with expenses.
"We are going to be doing silent auctions and draws, we have gotten a wealth of things from the community, from gift cards to limo services and spa packages," says Ramage. "We went to a business location this last week to sell tickets and somebody, just a random person who has been seeing the story on the news dropped $100 in the donation bucket."
Ramage says the family has had to travel back and forth to London and Toronto. Madalayna has gone through two surgeries already and her parents have been off work to be with her.
The family expects to be with Madalayna following the transplant for up to three months.
