A tip from a concerned citizen helped nab an alleged thief in a downtown Windsor parking garage.
It happened Thursday around 5 pm. Windsor police were called to Chatham St. West near Pelissier St. after someone reported a man attempting to open car doors.
Officers located a man matching the description, hiding behind a parked car in a public parking garage in the 200-block of Pitt St. W near Ferry St. Police noticed he was wet due to rainfall from outside the garage and yet he was carrying several duffle bags that were completely dry.
The original description of the suspect confirmed he did not have any bags with him while entering the garage.
Investigators determined that most of the property in the involved duffle bags had just been stolen from a vehicle in the garage.
Michael Pontich, 48, of Windsor is charged with theft and possession of stolen property.
Investigators believe that some of the recovered property has yet to be claimed by it's rightful owner.
