The redhot Royals rip the Tigers 162

Eric Hosmer went 5-for-6 with his first career grand slam to lead a 22-hit attack as the Royals trounced the Tigers 16-2 at Comerica Park.

Hosmer finished with a career-high six RBI.  Whit Merrifield, Lorenzo Cain and Mike Moustakas each had three hits, and Alcides Escobar and Drew Butera each drove in two runs as KC won its eighth straight.  Ian Kennedy moved to 4-and-6 with the win.

Anibal Sanchez didn't survive the fourth inning and suffered his first loss.  Jose Iglesias had an RBI double for Detroit, which has lost six of its last eight games.

Utility man Andrew Romine came in to pitch in the ninth after Bruce Rondon was ejected when he hit Mike Moustakas, which led to both benches clearing.  Romine walked one batter and allowed a hit in two-thirds of an inning.

The Tigers begin a three-game home series with the Astros tomorrow night.
