The mayor of Windsor believes the region has earned the right to move to stage three of the province's COVID-19 recovery plan.
Drew Dilkens says the move does not mean it's business as usual but he feels it allows businesses a fighting chance to survive.
He says local businesses have struggled during the pandemic but hopes the move to stage three helps them out.
"It's been very difficult for small business to be able to make it through this particular time so I'm sure they will be elated come Wednesday when they can open the doors," says Dilkens.
He says safety precautions still need to be followed.
"This is not business as usual and you see what's happening south of the border where they moved very quickly and now they're reverting and we don't want that to happen here," says Dilkens. "So please follow all of the best practices that you have been doing for the last four months."
Dilkens says Premier Doug Ford is expected to visit the region this week.
He says plans are still being finalized.
Windsor-Essex will enter stage three on Wednesday.
