While there is no specific date for opening the Gordie Howe Bridge, there's at least a closer timeline of when the next stages take place.
The three proponents have had the 4,000 page RFP document in hand since November 10th and it's expected a selection of the winning bid will be made in about a year.
Jokingly referring to himself as the "permanent" interim chair of the Windsor Detroit Bridge Authority, Dwight Duncan continues to avoid naming a date.
"It'll be done when it's done, and it will be done properly and it will be done without the kind of inordinate risk that's associated with randomly picking a date before you have a constructor before you have financing in place," says Duncan."
"By Christmas we will know internally but the final proponent will be an additional six months to financial close. So we're looking roughly May-June 2018 before the public knows who the successful proponent is"
Duncan says estimates of how long the construction of the span itself will take range from three to four years.
Duncan says the process to expropriate the land on the U.S. side is now set and they're confident it will be completed in time for construction.
