Tecumseh is using provincial funding it received this week to help prevent basement flooding.
Through the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund, the town is getting more than $806,000. The money will be used improve its water infiltration system to disconnect the stormwater from the sanitary sewers.
Mayor Gary McNamara says there were some major issues in Wards 1 and 2 last fall.
"If there are sanitary pipes in the system that are cracked and need repair, it is realigning some of those sewers," says McNamara.

He says the goal is to keep storm water and the sanitary sewers separate as much as possible.
McNamara adds some money has already been set aside for the project and expects it will be sent for tenders this week.
Back in September 2016, the town received more than 220 mm of rain in a 24-hour period resulting in hundreds of homes being flooded.
More than 600-million gallons of water flowed through the town's pumps.
