The Town of Tecumseh is reaping the benefits of converting its streetlights to LED fixtures.
The town has received a cheque for just under $200,000 from Essex Powerlines Corporation.
Earlier this year, the town switched 1900 streetlights to LED fixtures.
Councillor Andrew Dowie says the switch made sense for Tecumseh residence and business owners.
"We're going to save the taxpayers of Tecumseh a dramatic amount of money. We're going to be able to re-invest that money into new services or to hold the line on taxes and make sure that costs don't go up so it's a great opportunity for us and this is the kind of smart governance I want to continue to do while I'm here on council," says Dowie.
The town made the switch to improve service to residents and to reduce energy consumption that has resulted in substantial cost savings.
The cheque is an incentive cheque through the saveONenergy Retrofit program.
