Tecumseh completes installation of three EV charging stations

Three electric vehicle charging stations are up and running in the Town of Tecumseh.
The installation of the EV charging stations located at Tecumseh Town Hall at 963 Lesperance Road, McAuliffe Park at 2391 St.Alphonse Street, and Lakewood Park at 13451 Riverside Drive are all open to the public.
The EV charging stations will be free to use, and this will be re-assessed over time as the town monitors the use of the chargers.
The chargers are visible to EV users through the FLO EV app, an app that shows users where to charge their vehicles while out in the community.
The EV chargers are part of Essex Powerlines "Charge Up Windsor-Essex" EV charger and the Natural Resources Canada's Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure program.
Tecumseh Mayor, Gary McNamara, says there are more stations to come.
"The first three in our community, and there's still more to come, were installed and are now operational, so we're quite happy about that. And it's part of building the required infrastructure for what's coming in terms of many more electrical vehicles in our region."
He says the three stations were chosen based on traffic in the area.
"We looked at where there's municipal traffic in those areas. So, no doubt, Town Hall park itself is fairly busy throughout the day. Lakewood Park we have hundreds of people go through there everyday and McAuliffe. And so, those are three major areas in the community that contribute to a lot of inbound folks coming in."
McNamara adds that there are more and more EV's.
"It's the wave of the future and we're seeing more and more electric vehicles coming on board. And then when you look at the capability as well, eventually these will be programmed as well. So, instead of going to a gas station and filling up with fuel and so forth, you can charge your vehicle."
More charging stations will be installed throughout 2023.
The stations are equipped with standard level 2 charging ports, which are ideal for a quick 'opportunity' top-up, takes around six to 14 hours to fully charge a battery and are compatible with any EV car from any brand.
