Two Canadians are facing federal drug charges in the US after nearly 300 lbs of cocaine was allegedly found on a private plane headed for Windsor.
The twin-engine plane made an unauthorized landing in Ohio on Wednesday because of an emergency mechanical issue. American officials investigated after the plane diverted from its flight path and landed at KUNI Ohio University Airport.
US Customs and Border Protection and Homeland Security Investigations agents interviewed the pilot and passenger of the plane, while a police dog allegedly found the drugs.
RCMP, OPP and Windsor police have all joined in on the investigation to assist American officials.
Two men from Quebec, 57-year-old Sylvain Desjardins and 46-year-old David Ayotte are facing drug related charges and have had an initial appearance in a Columbus courtroom.
