The local Sikh and Indian communities along with the Windsor Sports and Culture Centre are donating up to 200 pizzas on Christmas Day and Boxing Day to Street Help Homeless Centre

The local Sikh and Indian communities along with the Windsor Sports and Culture Centre are giving back to the community this holiday season.

They're donating up to 200 pizzas on Christmas Day and Boxing Day to Street Help Homeless Centre on Wyandotte Street East.

Culture centre president Jatinder Rai says they've been donating pizza to the homeless centre for about 10-years.

"We just want to make sure nobody goes with an empty stomach that day, those days especially the holidays and special occasions," says Rai.  "Every year we try to give it back to the community whatever we have earned and we thank the whole community."

He says there is a need in the community and they enjoy giving back to the community every year.

"There's a lot of homeless in our area these days," he says.  "We just want to make sure these people are especially on those days are not going empty stomach, they're not sleeping empty stomach, they got the nice and warm pizza and they enjoy it."

Rai says they're ready to serve the community.

"We all try to fulfill somebody's needs whoever needs any kind of food, we'll try and fill them up," says Rai.

He says he has already ordered the pizza for this year's event from Pizza Depot.

Rai says it will be delivered on both days between 10 and 10:30 a.m.

Last year, more than 100 pizzas were handed out.

Rai says they will also be making a winter clothing donation early in the new year to Street Help.
