A man is in custody after a firetruck was taken on a dangerous joyride through downtown Winnipeg.

Winnipeg police Constable Rob Carver tells CTV Winnipeg a stun gun was used to subdue the man after two spike belts were deployed to bring the truck to a stop underneath a bridge just before 1pm Friday.

Police say an officer tailing the fire truck witnessed the driver's attempts to mow-down pedestrians in the park, according to a report from CTV Winnipeg.

The truck was parked and was stolen while firefighters were responding to a medical call.
