Windsor Spitfires forward Egor Afanasyev has been named to Team Russia for the 2019 CIBC Canada Russia Series.
Team OHL will compete against Afanasyev, Ottawa 67's defenceman Nikita Okhotyuk and the Russian National Junior Team hopefuls in Game 3 of the series Thursday, November 7 in Kitchener and Game 4 in London Monday, November 11.
Afanasyev is in his first OHL season with the Spitfires, who acquired the 18-year-old from the Ottawa 67's last December in a trade for goaltender Michael DiPietro.
The native of Moscow has five goals and 12 points in 11 games with the Spitfires this season and recently signed a three-year entry-level contract with the NHL's Nashville Predators, who selected him in the second round (45th overall) in June's league draft.
The six-foot-three, 205-pound winger represented Russia at the 2017 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in Dawson Creek and Fort St. John, B.C. scoring two goals and registering five points in five games.
