The Russian ambassador to Turkey is dead after reportedly being shot by a gunman in the country's capital Ankara.
According to an Associated Press photographer, the gunman fired eight shots — killing Russian Ambassador Andrew Karlov — while yelling "God is great" and "Don't forget Aleppo! Don't forget Syria!" as part of his tirade.
A spokesperson for the Russian foreign ministry says Karlov was giving a speech at an embassay-sponsored event at a museum. The event was televised.
Video of the shooting quickly spread online.
Local reports in Turkey indicate the gunman was shot and killed by police.
