The humanitarian tragedy in Aleppo will be the focus of a candlelight vigil on the riverfront this evening.
The Syrian-Canadian Council is organizing the event in Dieppe Park to start at 5:30 PM.
Volunteer Lina Chaker says they want to mark the terrible situation the residents of the Syrian city are facing in the war-torn area including how many people have died just in the past few days.
Chaker says it's hard to know how to react to such carnage from this distance away, but the message of standing up to support the people makes a difference.
Lina Chaker says many of the Syrian refugees who have arrived in the Windsor area in the past year are very concerned. "A couple of other places however, those that are from Aleppo and even those who are not, are all very much impacted by the situation that's happening in that city and so they're all passionate about being there"
Chaker reminds anyone who is coming to the vigil to dress warmly because of the bitterly cold wind beside the river.
