According to a number of reports, free agent slugger Edwin Encarnacion is the newest member of the Cleveland Indians.
TSN reports the former Toronto Blue Jays DH has signed a $60-million three-year contract. Each year of the deal is worth $20-million including a $20-million club option and a $5-million buyout.
Encarnacion finished his last season with the Blue Jays hitting .263 with 42 home runs and 127 RBIs — that's five straight years of hitting 30 or more home runs.
The Blue Jays offered Encarnacion a $17.2-million qualifying offer at the end of the season, which he rejected. The offer means the Jays will get compensation for Encarnacion's departure.
Encarnacion joined the Jays in 2009 through a mid-season trade with the Cincinnati Reds.
