Cycling will be a bit easier for a portion of west Windsor.
Windsor City Council has voted to spend $1.1-million on new paved shoulders on Malden Rd. and South Cameron.
The city refers to it as new cycling infrastructure but the cycling community says it falls short of being a bike lane because "bikes" aren't being painted on the widened shoulder.
Cyclist Jessica Bondy says it is a "baby step" since "Share the Road" signs will be posted.
"I will get a share the road sign put up where they are not putting in a paved shoulder, so that is a win in my area because this is a route that I cycle every day."
Bondy says it will make it a bit easier to get around.
"Obviously we do belong on the road, we don't belong on sidewalks and I think a lot of people are starting to realize that, maybe not everyone, but some of the councillors. So with that being said, I think it is important that voices like mine come out here so they know it is important to me."
Work is expected to begin by the end of September to ensure the project is complete by the end of the construction season.
The tender came in $463,000 over budget. The extra money will come from surplus funds in the Cabana Rd. project and the "Bikeways Development Project."
