It has been one year of assisting with the resettlement of Syrian refugees to Windsor and Essex County.
A total of 18,433 government-assisted refugees have been resettled in Canada, 844 of them in Windsor-Essex.
Manager of Community Engagement at the Multicultural Council, Camilla Alvez, says the past year was a learning curve.
She there are now more systems and structures in place to receive refugees.
"In terms of arriving here, if they need medical attention right away. How are we going to enroll all of them in school right away? What are we going to do to get them assessed to enter language classes right away?"
She says the MCC does follow up with its clients to see how they are adapting.
"The report has been great. We have had positive feedback. The kids are doing well in school, they registered in school and the schools are looking to assist them. So I can honestly say that we have done a tremendous job, but it doesn't mean that it's done."
Alvez says more refugees are expected in the new year adding the Windsor-Essex community has exceeded all expectations in welcoming the Syrian refugees.
