New Location For Bike WindsorEssex In Limbo

A new space for the Bike Windsor-Essex has fallen through.

Downtown business owner Mark Boscariol had promised his Snack BBQ location on Chatham St. E. before passing on July 26 and it's now unavailable.

The group's bike kitchen was recently handed a surprise eviction from its home on Pelissier St. and University Ave.

Executive Director Lori Newton tells CTV News the move just didn't come together in time and the organization has ruled out Snack BBQ as its new home.

"We just couldn't put it together in the short time frame that we had. The family of course is devastated by their loss and trying to pick up the pieces. Try as we all did, all the pieces had to come together and they didn't."

She says finding a new downtown location would be ideal, but anything will work if it means getting the bike kitchen up and running as soon as possible.

"I think at this point we've got to search well beyond the downtown because we really need a home. We have 20 to 30 people coming into the bike kitchen every four hour day that we're here and those people need to fix their bicycles. So we know there's a need."

Newton says one of the group's supporters stepped up to offer their basement on Drouillard Rd. to store all the shop's bikes while they search for a new home.

The bike kitchen will be closed until the group finds a new home.
