Funding has been approved for a new $2.5-million EMS base on Dougall Ave. in Windsor.
The current station was built in the 1980's and can't accommodate today's larger ambulances and extra equipment.
EMS Chief Bruce Krauter says work on the building is to begin next month in the same location. "That will involve the demolition of the current Dougall Ave. base and a re-construction of a three bay drive-thru ambulance station. So it's going to be in the excellent location to still serve the core of the city, west end of the city, LaSalle, Essex and at points, those resources respond out the Amherstburg. So it will continue in that good spot."
The new base at the foot of the EC Row Expressway should be fully operational by September.
