The Progressive Conservative government has announced $90-million to help fund an additional 1,100 hospital beds ahead of flu season.
Health Minister Christine Elliott say that will help Ontario's hospital system deal with overcrowding that has left patients being treated in hallways and storage rooms.
When it comes to whether or not any of that money will be seen locally, Windsor Regional Hospital President and CEO David Musyj says if the math is typical, about 5 per cent of the $90-million should be coming to the Erie St Clair Local Health Integration Network.
That works out to about $4.5-million.
"Any money coming here could be divided between Bluewater, Erie Shores, Hotel Dieu, Windsor Regional, Community Care Access Centres or other facilities, be it long term care in the community — so it's just a matter of how it will be dispersed," says Musyj.
He says it will take a while for all of the details to be known.
"Usually it takes a few days for the rollout to happen where the details will follow — so there will be details that go to the Erie St Clair LHIN and that will be dispersed through the system so that's generally the way it works."
Musyj says Wednesday's announcement will be in addition to the previously announced 28 'surge beds' coming to the area in November to help alleviate pressures from the pending flu season.
