The Progressive Conservative government is stepping in to prevent any strike by power workers before it happens.
Government House Leader Todd Smith has recalled the legislatre, bringing politicians back during the Christmas break to pass back to work legislation.
"Given the uncertainty created by the impasse between Ontario Power Generation and the Power Workers' Union, it is the intent of the government to reconvene the 42nd Parliament at 1pm on Monday, December 17th for the purposes of introducing legislation to ensure that Power Workers remain on the job," says Smith.
Members of the Power Worker's union rejected a contract offer yesterday from Ontario Power Generation, putting them in a legal strike position as of December 26th.
The union says the workers have been without a contract since March 31st and that OPG's final offer remained unchanged from a previous position.
