A lot of drivers in Essex County are getting hit with a large fine because of distracted driving.
Since a new initiative was launched on September 17, Essex County OPP have laid more than 150 distracted driving charges.
As AM800 News reported last month, the OPP started 'Operation S.T.A.T.S' which stands for 'Stop Texting And Travel Safely.'
The blitz will run through the month of October.
Officers will continue to drive unmarked vehicles to nab people on their phones as well as spotters are looking for offenders and then radio in to officers in marked cruisers to pull them over.
The fine, if convicted, is $490.
