The Chicago Blackhawks winger will not play in the upcoming season

A big loss for the Chicago Blackhawks.

The team has issued a release saying that star winger Marian Hossa will not play in the 2017-2018 season.

It's due to an allergy caused by the equipment he wears, an issue so severe that it may force him to retire.

There is medicine to help combat the issue, but the 38-year-old needs blood work done to see the effects.

Hossa had 26 goals and 45 points last season.

He was apart of the 'Hawks' Stanley Cup championship runs in 2010, 2013 and 2015.
