Windsor will be taking part in the March for Science on Saturday.
That's the name of a walk designed to educate on the merits of the scientific method.
Organizer Allison Mistakidis told AM800's Peter Langille on The Afternoon News, the event will be part education and part fun.
"We'll have scientific outreach activities for kids and we'll also have face painting and food available for purchase," says Mistakidis. "We are also going to have some speeches at the beginning of the march from members of the faculty at the University of Windsor and just local scientists talking about why they feel science is important."
She says it's important to instill the importance of science in children — because they will use scientific tools for the rest of their lives.
"Scientific evidence for something is not just a feeling that someone has. It's not just an idea or a theory, it's actually a tested result that came across through multiple effective ways of analyzing situations," says Mistakidis. "We are using the scientific method to determine outcomes and not just hoping for the best."
The march begins at 10am at Assumption Park near the Ambassador Bridge. Participants will make their way to Dieppe Gardens before returning to Assumption Park for the rest of the festivities.
Admission is free.
