The Greater Essex County District School Board has formally signed a deal with a school in South Korea.
The agreement will allow for an exchange of both students and teachers between the local public board and a technical high school in Guro, Seoul.
Superintendent for Student Success and Alternative Education Vicki Houston says there are a number of benefits for the students who will participate in the exchange.
"Learn to understand cultural differences, they learn to have a better appreciation for things that are happening in the world. Yuhan is a technical school and as I mentioned, its automation as well as robotics. So it provides opportunities, Windsor's a perfect fit for that"
She says they expect to start with a modest number of students coming from Korea starting with between 15 and 20 students.
Yuan School Principal Seok Ho Kim, through a translator, sees great benefits for the students.
"Korean - through this MOU I think the students will have opportunities for a better education and cultural exchanges, which means a better future for students from both countries."
The first students could arrive in the fall 2019.
It will not be inexpensive for the students, as foreign students they'll each have to pay about $20,000 for their education and living expenses.
