A political science professor at the University of Windsor says the Trudeau Government is looking terrible following the testimony of former Attorney General Jody Wilson-Raybould.
"This isn't just some small nothing-to-see-here scandal," says Professor Lydia Miljan. "You have a former attorney general, who was a crown prosecutor who testified she gave advice that was ignored by the government."
Wilson-Raybould told the House of Commons justice committee on Wednesday she faced sustained pressure aimed at getting her to stop a criminal prosecution of Montreal engineering giant SNC-Lavalin.
Speaking on AM800's the Lynn Martin Show, Miljan says the testimony put into question whether the government itself is upholding the law.
She says the law needs to be applied fairly and equally across the country to anyone who commits a crime, regardless of jobs or political connections.
"We all have to be concerned when a government throws away the rule of law, this Prime Minister keeps saying we always uphold the rule of law but clearly in this case there is some pretty compelling testimony that they don't."
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau insists his conversations with the former attorney-general did not cross any legal lines.
The Tories and N-D-P are calling for public inquiries or an R-C-M-P investigation into the S-N-C-Lavalin affair.
