Leamington is cracking down on the misuse of residential housing units.
An interim by-law prohibits the purchase of a single family home for boarding or lodging purposes.
Mayor John Paterson says it's a matter of public safety. "There is a lot of residential houses being purchased right now and being used in a way that some were not designed to. I am not saying that all of them are being improperly used, and it is probably a very small portion of them that are probably overfilled, but we want to gain some kind of control over that."
Paterson admits it isn't a huge problem but says the town wants to get control of it early on.
The interim bylaw will be in effect until a permanent one can be drafted.
