Another local bridge may soon be named after a fallen police officer.
Last month, a bridge near St. Clair College was named after Windsor Police Constable John Atkinson, who was killed in the line of duty in May of 2006.
LaSalle Councillor Mike Akpata would like a bridge named after another fallen officer, Constable Robert Charles Carrick, who died in August of 1969 at the age of 22. "Constable Carrick was with the Sandwich West Police and was killed in the line of duty. Much like council did at the last meeting approving a bridge after Constable Atkinson of the Windsor Police Service, we're now making sure that our own is taken care of."
"The town has spoken with the Carrick family" says Akpata. "We received all the approvals from the family because that's where it has to start and a motion is going to be brought before the police services board for their approval and hopefully the motion that I had will be simply to add the last check to the box when the police services board approves it."
The board will discuss the motion later this month.
